We fly to Lukla’s Tenzing Hillary Airport from Kathmandu (35 min flight). *Note: During the peak trekking seasons (March, April, May, October, November) a high volume of flights to and from Lukla has led to congestion and delays at the Kathmandu airport. To tackle this issue the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal operates flights to Lukla from Manthali Airport (132km from Kathmandu).  As a result of this change, we need to drive 4 to 5 hours to Ramechap and fly to Lukla (20 min). Our company will make the necessary arrangement for transport during the night to catch the early flight from Manthali.

Lukla to Phakding:  It is a gentle first day trek from Phakding.  Leaving the north end of Lukla, the trail drops steeply at first.  You will pass Cheplung Village and continue north and will catch your first view of the roaring Dudh Koshi River. The trail descends further through a forest and then a short climb around the ridge comes to the small village of Ghat. We continue on to reach Phakding.

Helicopter Option: We can arrange helicopter flight to Lukla which will cost $400 USD per

person for 5 pax.  Pre-information is required to book the helicopter in order to

fulfill the total pax and ensure the flight.  It is difficult to find seats for the

    Helicopter flights during peak season.

The trail takes us first over Dudh Koshi River via a long suspension bridge. Continuing up through the forest of pines, rhododendron, magnolia, and fir, our first glimpse of Thamserku (6608m) above Toktok village is our reward before we reach Monjo. Just above Monjo is the entrance checkpoint for the Sagarmatha National Park where we pause for a brief permit check.  We descend to Dudh Koshi River to Jorsale and from here, we follow the long zigzagging ascent to Namche, most attractive settlement in the Khumbu, offering the first glimpse of Everest and its grandeur.

The steep climb from Phakding can lead to altitude sickness and other severe illness, so it is essential to stay at least one extra night to adjust to the altitude and enjoy the mountain views. We utilize our day by hiking to Hotel Everest View (3880m), an excellent acclimatization choice as the hotel is situated on highest altitude of any on our planet. We can visit the Sherpa Cultural Museum and set our hike to Syanboche Airport which holds the dignity of the airport located on highest altitude on earth.  We can see a lot of travelers coming from a Helicopter ride savoring the stunning view of Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Thamseuku, and others from here.

We also you use your spare time to explore Namche Bazzar or even Khumjung village. Namche is a proper mountain village with beautiful cobbled streets and is the main trading center in the Everest region run by Sherpa people. It is jampacked with trekkers like you who are aiming for basecamp and other trekkers returning from basecamp or expedition with their exciting stories. It is the best option to buy trekking equipment, books, and choco-bars if needed on your trek. There are numerous cafes and comfortable lodges here.

The stunning view of lush rhododendron forest, glacier fed river, and monasteries along the trek is rewarding.                                                                                                                                                                           After reaching Tengboche, we visit the focal point-Tengboche monastery, either in the evening or morning to witness Lamas performing prayer ceremony.
